What is Nothing
The ideea
of NOTHING is that it represents the absence of anything; No thing. Usually it's used to indicate the
absence/lack of anything interesting for a particular group/person. Nothingness is the state of being
nothing, the state of nonexistence of anything. Even if i really do not think a such thing is
possible.
Nothing philosophy
The greek
philosopher Parmenides (5th Century BC) argurd that "NOTHING" cannot exist because to speak of a thing one
has to speak of a thing that exists. Since we can speak of a thing in the past it must still exist (in some
sense). So on the same line of reasoning there can be no such thing as coming-into-being or
not-being.
Aristotle provided the classic escape from the logical problem posed by Parmenides by
distinguising things that are matter and things that are in space. In his oppinion space is
nothing.
In
eastern philosophy "nothingness" is considered to be a state of mind in some derivates of Buddihism (
also known as Nirvana". By achieving this state allows one to be totally focused on something at a level that
would not be possible if they were consciously thinking.
Nothing in computers
In computing "nothing" can be a
keyword (VB.Net) used in place of something unassigned. Even if a computer's storage hardware always has numbers,
"nothing" represents a number skipped by the system when the programmer desires. many systems have this capability
but under different keywords like: NULL, NUL, NIL and NONE. To tell a computer to do nothing you can use the
instruction "NOP". This is a "control abstraction" because running processors are always computing something, even
if it's only the "NOP" function.
